Review: Let’s begin with… What a name!
Also I want to be Carrie Fisher when I grow up.
Without the alcoholism, the drug problem, the manic depression, the gay ex-husband, the dead body in the bed, the list is long.
Born to celebrity parents Carrie Fisher had a ton of problems to deal with right from the beginning. Then she got cast as Princess Leia in a tiny, not so famous, completely under the radar movie called Star Wars. Things kind of went down hill from that point. Being a single mother, dealing with a pill problem, dealing with a bigger alcohol problem and handling the reins of her manic depression and several stints in mental institutions, and an electric shock therapy Fisher decided to recount stories from her life in this memoir.
It’s funny, witty and brutally honest. Fisher does not pull punches. She is brilliant in the way she handles topics that people would shy away from. She makes fun of herself and her parents. And the crazy celebrity life she inhabits.
It is a short book so I’m going to keep the review short, too. But I have to say this, in the chapter where she talks about the lives of her parents it reminded me so much of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. I get now why they say the book was inspired by the life of Elizabeth Taylor. I now want to read a few more memoirs or biographies of these people because their lives sound whack. Also, I really want to read more stuff written by Fisher because her writing is hilarious!
